WASHINGTON CHAPTER NEWSGRAM Today's Event Today, Lt. General (Retired) James Mcall, (USAF) will discuss Future Initiatives for ASMC and will share with us the progress that has been made on the ASMC Certification Program Presidents Message Today we have an exciting opportunity to hear first hand about the American Society of Military Comptrollers new certification program. As you are aware Congress has been challenging the Department on its ability to prove that we have the right people with the right skill set to implement financial management within the Department. The certification process is one way in which we can effectively demonstrate that we do have the best and the brightest individuals available within the Department who are working to improve our financial operations. The test is being patterned after the Association of Government Accounts certification program. I would encourage each and everyone of you to consider attaining this certification (which can be accomplished in phases). We need to demonstrate not only our ability but our interest in ensuring that everyone within the Department is qualified to meet the emerging financial challenges within the Department. Coast Guard Vice President Message Today marks the beginning of the Departments Budget Estimate Submission. Many hours and long days will be put in by a lot of our members in the coming months. However, as the old adage goes "all work and no play makes for a very dull person." I would encourage each and every one of you to plan some outside activities (like our monthly luncheon on the third Wednesday of each month or the Holiday Social on December 9th) to help you in keeping mentally fit during this budget season . Good luck to all Promotions/Assignments John Bourbeau is departing to a new life in Alabama. We wish him well on his new journey and will miss his spirit and participation within ASMC. Good luck John! We would like to welcome Mr. Frank Murphy as a new member to ASMC. He is currently working for OSD (Comptroller) for the Directorate for Accounting Policy. He would be an excellent person to get to know as his hometown is Philadelphia the location of the PDI 2000 Future Events Mark your Calendars for:
