Brigadier General Robert R. Ruark

Assistant Deputy Commandant, Installations and Logistics, (LP)

 

Brigadier General Ruark was born in Baltimore, Maryland and commissioned in 1981 through the NROTC program at Miami (Ohio) University. As a Lieutenant, he served as the Battalion Landing Team S-4 Officer for 2d Battalion, 3d Marines, 1st Marine Brigade, and as a Series Commander at 1st Recruit Training Battalion (RTBN), Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. As a Captain, he was a Company Commander, S-4 Officer, and the Battalion Executive Officer at 1st RTBN, served as a Company Grade Monitor at Headquarters US Marine Corps (HQMC), and was assigned to 2d Force Service Support Group (FSSG) as the Operations Officer for MEU Service Support Group 22.

As a Major, he served as the Commanding Officer of Combat Service Support Detachment 27, Operations Officer of 2d FSSG Forward, Battalion Executive Officer of 2d Landing Support Battalion, followed by joint duty as the Civil-Military Coordination Officer in Humanitarian Assistance, Office of the Secretary of Defense. As a Lieutenant Colonel, he commanded MSSG-15 and served as the AC/S G-4, 1st FSSG.

As a Colonel, he was the Head of Logistics Modernization at HQMC Installations and Logistics, commanded 3d Materiel Readiness Battalion, and upon reorganization of 3d Marine Logistics Group, commanded Combat Logistics Regiment 35 (CLR-35). During his tour, CLR-35 received the 2006 Phoenix Award as the top maintenance unit in DoD, as well as the 2006 James L. Jones Safety Award, as the top safety unit in the Marine Corps.

He has served on 6 MEU deployments, in Operations DESERT STORM, PROVIDE PROMISE (Adriatic Sea), GUARDIAN ASSISTANCE (Rwanda), STABILIZE (East Timor), and most recently commanded the 1st Marine Logistics Group in OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 08.1/08.2. He has graduated from the Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School and Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and has completed the Penn State Logistics Fellowship.
